02 / Who this is for
FOR THOSE NOT WANTING TO FEEL STIFF AND UPTIGHT.
A photo that holds up next to your title. Recruiters, prospects and hiring panels see it before they read a word of your profile.
Casting submissions that look like you walking into the room, not a stylised portrait of someone else.
On your listings, your signage and your business cards for years. It should look like the person who answers the door.
Your first job after graduation, your grad school application, your first real professional profile.

WHAT A GREAT PERSONAL HEADSHOT DOES
Projects your personality
The version of you that shows up when you are talking about something you actually care about can show up in your digital life too.
Shows your confidence
I'll help you unlock that effortless confidence you have within, one small adjustment at a time, so you come across as certain (instead of stiff and awkward).
Adds warmth and character
A real smile beats a polite or forced one, and the difference is visible in the frame. We all know that awkward feeling when it doesn't feel real.
Matches who you see in your head
Most people carry an internal picture of themselves that no photo has ever matched. You and I will shoot until the screen agrees with it.
04 / Choose your look
Light Mode, Dark Mode, or Maverick Mode
Pick a backdrop and a look, or shoot more than one in the same session. Most people decide once they have seen both on the screen side by side.
05 / The session
Not photogenic? That's what they all say.
You don't need to be photogenic - You need direction.
My coaching is designed to relax your brain so we can capture that perfect shot that screams “Unmistakably You!”. Heck, one of my client's biometric app even alerted her that her stress levels dropped significantly after our session ended!
My camera feeds straight to a laptop and we sit down together to play the ol’ “Keep It” or “Delete It” game until your best shots are obvious.
Feel like you need time to make the right choice? No problem. I can send you a private preview gallery where you can select your favourites and make a decision on which you’d like to buy. No high-pressure sales tactics - just get what you want!

"Marcus made the whole experience comfortable (which says a lot, because I usually hate getting my photo taken)."
Cheryl Lewis · Edmonton
"Marcus is excellent to work with - he's friendly, professional and provided great tips and direction to bring out my best features. I'm not a fan of getting my photos taken, but I felt totally comfortable and relaxed in his studio during the session and I'm thrilled with the results. "
Aurea Siemens · City of Edmonton · Edmonton
"The headshots turned out amazing, and Marcus was super professional, and great to work with. I was afraid of not getting my smile to come out. Marcus has a such a natural process. I'll be booking with Marcus in the future for more headshots. Thanks again Maverick Studios"
Braden Tidball · CPA · St. Albert

08 / The story
I started this because of a bad photographer
My wife and I paid a lot of money for our elopement photos in Banff for an awful experience. We left feeling awkward and judged, and she cried when the gallery arrived (and no, these were not, “tears of joy”). Nobody leaves my studio feeling like that.
I'm Marcus Rideout. I've run businesses since 2013. Through Maverick Studios, I've photographed surgeons, executives, entrepreneurs, actors and comedians, students, and teams of all sizes here in the Edmonton area.
I've been published multiple times in the “Business in Edmonton” magazine, and you will get that same ‘magazine level of care’ in your session.

FAQS ABOUT PERSONAL HEADSHOTS
Are AI headshots good enough for LinkedIn?
+
A real session can take up to 60 minutes and the photo is actually you, which is the entire point of a headshot. Unmistakably you!
The experience you have during your photo shoot directly impacts the vibe and quality of the photo you get in working with a professional photographer. I swear I’m 90% therapist and cheerleader, 10% photographer, and every one of my clients leaves my studio with an extra pep in their step, feeling more confident about themselves.
Professional photos are never just about the image you get.
How much do headshots cost at Maverick Studios?
+
You pay a session fee to book your date, then you buy as many retouched images as you'd like afterwards. Exact figures are on the rates page.
Do I have to decide how many photos I want before the session?
+
No. You pay the session fee to book, and you choose how many images to buy after you've seen them. We will review your photos in real-time throughout our session to dial in what works best for your face, look, and expression.
How long does a headshot session take?
+
Individual studio sessions can run up to 60 minutes.
If you're a busy individual, no problem. I can get you in and out within 15-20 minutes - the full hour is not mandatory.
How fast will I get my photos?
+
Final retouched images are delivered within 7 business days of image payment. My team does not work on weekends.
What should I wear to my headshot session?
+
The best clothes are what you feel comfortable in and love - The more you love what you wear, the more natural you will feel when directed by me in front of the camera.
If you wear glasses, feel free to bring every pair that you own! Some glasses tend to photograph better than others under studio lighting, and swapping out a pair between shots is super easy!
My rule of thumb is this: If you don't bring it, we can't experiment to see how it looks when captured on camera. You will have access to a private restroom with a large mirror to try on different clothes and ensure everything looks right before stepping in front of the camera.
What if I am not photogenic?
+
That’s the secret - everyone is photogenic! All you need is the right photographer who can help bring that out of you.
Most people who book tell me exactly that, and it's a 'direction problem' (ie: the photographer), not a face problem.
I coach you to find a natural expression and posture one small adjustment at a time.
Where is the studio?
+
At 11217 143 Street NW in west Edmonton, near the TELUS World of Science. Street parking is available.
Can you photograph our team at our office?
+
Yes, though that is a separate service. I set up a full portable studio in a private room at your office anywhere in the Edmonton region. See corporate and team headshots.
Do you shoot weddings, family photos or passport photos?
+
No. I only photograph headshots and portraits, for individuals and for teams. Most pharmacy photo counters handle passport photos.
Are you the same Maverick Studios as the design studio in Saskatoon?
+
No. Maverick Studios in Edmonton is Marcus Rideout's headshot studio. We aren't listed on Trustpilot; our official reviews are on Google.
