Plan the day
We pick a backdrop, a room and a running order. You send that to your team with what the Headshot Preparation Guide (or your own branding guide) on what to wear.
Shoot on site
I set up in 20 to 30 minutes and direct each person myself. Everyone sees their photos on a large screen before they leave the room and make their choice with me, so you don't have to chase anyone down for an image selection after the fact.
RETOUCH
My team handles the retouching to ensure the highest standard is consistent in how your business is represented online.

How much do team headshots cost per person?

$195 per person (+ tax), which includes one retouched image each. Extra retouched images are available for $100 each.
If I come to your office, add a $375 on-site setup fee.
Travel and accommodation required for work outside the Edmonton region.
How long does a team headshot session take?

If your team has fewer than 20 people, I can spend a bit more time with each individual, and I recommend around 10 to 12 minutes per person.
If your team is larger than 20, I can get each person's photo in around 7-8 minutes.
Add 20 to 30 minutes at the start of the timeline for equipment setup.
Can you come to our office?

Yes. My whole studio is portable and sets up in a boardroom or any private room in 20 to 30 minutes.
On-site setup is $375 plus tax anywhere in the Edmonton region.
What do you need from us on the day?

A room where we won't be disturbed is ideal, so nobody feels like they're being watched or judged during their session.
Ideally a room without big windows works best
Access to two or three electrical outlets is required as is load-in access. Most of my equipment is portable and easy to move through a front entrance if needed.
Can new hires get matching headshots later?

Yes. I keep your lighting and backdrop on file, so someone photographed months after the original session drops straight into the same team page without looking pasted in.
Do you travel outside Edmonton?

I cover the Edmonton region as standard, travel to Calgary regularly, and go anywhere else in Alberta by arrangement. Outside the Edmonton region, travel and accommodation are added to the on-site fee.
How and when do we pay?

One invoice to the company, not to each person.
A 50% deposit is required to lock in your project, and the remaining balance is due on the day of photography.
Payment Plans can be made available for larger budget projects to make life easier for your accountant.
How fast do we get the final images?

Retouched finals are delivered within 7-12 business days of image payment (depending on the volume for retouching).
Can we choose more than one image per person?
+
Yes. One retouched image per person is included, and any additional images can be purchased for $100 each.
Plenty of teams add a second frame for people who need options (like owners, board members, upper management).

What the people being photographed need to know
What should I wear for a corporate headshot?
+
If not wearing branded clothing, the best clothes are what your team members typically wear when interacting with customers (or in their day-to-day).
Clothing that makes you feel comfortable and that you love will help you feel more natural when directed in front of the camera.
If you wear glasses, bring every pair that you own! Some glasses tend to photograph better than others, and swapping out a pair between shots is super easy!
What if I'm not photogenic?

Almost everyone says this before their turn. It is a direction problem, not a face problem. I coach your expression and posture one small adjustment at a time, and you see every frame on a large screen while we can still change it.
How should I do my hair?
+
Style your hair as you would on any day at work or if you were attending a friend's wedding.
Choosing a style more similar to your everyday look will ensure people don't feel disconnected when they see your photo and meet you in real life.
If you're like me and have long hair, consider bringing a few hair ties, as having your hair in a ponytail can make your image more striking. If you'd like to do this, I recommend we shoot with your "hair down" and styled first to ensure we capture some great looks before throwing any hard work from styling away into a ponytail.
Should I get my makeup done?

Although it sounds counterintuitive, heavy makeup does not photograph well and results in an unnatural-looking final product. Sparkly eyeshadow and large false eyelashes should be avoided.
A "less is more" approach will provide stunning results in headshot photography.
Having said that, if you love lipstick and like to have fun with bold colours, feel free to bring those along with you and we can shoot some images with those to make your images really pop!
Should I shave beforehand?

Keep the facial hair you normally have, tidied the way you would for a client meeting. The photo should look like you on a Tuesday, not a version of you nobody recognizes.
If you have a beard or mustache, you do not need to cut it off for your photo!
What does retouching include?

My goal is to make a photo look like you on your best day.
It is not an Instagram filter: It covers unwanted blemishes, stray hair, a mark on your collar. The things that make you recognisable stay.
How do I pick my photo?

You and I review your photos during our session, and you will be able to pick your favourite image. We will work until we get it, so no need to feel rushed!

I started this because of a bad photographer
My wife and I paid a lot of money for our elopement photos in Banff for an awful experience. We left feeling awkward and judged, and she cried when the gallery arrived (and no, these were not, “tears of joy”). Nobody leaves my studio feeling like that.
I'm Marcus Rideout. I've run businesses since 2013. Through Maverick Studios, I've photographed surgeons, executives, entrepreneurs, actors and comedians, students, and teams of all sizes here in the Edmonton area.
I've been published multiple times in the “Business in Edmonton” magazine, and you will get that same ‘magazine level of care’ in your session.
